- This probably ain't your problem, but many problems in a 2000 the age of
- yours are due to a power supply that is old, gradually failing, and
- (especially) loaded with extra drains. If your CPU card shows less than
- 4.85 volts on the 5 volt bus, you may start to see lockups. Hard
- drives will start acting crazy. At 4.75 volts, you can be 100% sure of
- bad behavior. Meter the 5 volts right on the CPU card or hard drive, and
- see if it drops below the the 4.85 v level as the machine warms up.

- Another problem (not related to what you describe) in machines this age
- is that the battery is going bad AND putting out corrosive material.
- Examine the battery, and if you see crud on or near it, change it soon.
- I just opened a 4.4 2000 today, and it was a mess.
